10 Psalms for Walking in a Winter Wonderland with God

In spite of sickness in my household, this has been a lovely week; and it’s all because of snow. Come for a walk with me, as I share what God whispered to me as I enjoyed my long walk alone with Him!

Sometimes you wake up and you just know it’s going to be a glorious day! You may be struggling, hurting, and coping; but a new day brings always brings hope for a bright new start:

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life” (Ps. 143:8 NIV).

I came down with a bad case of pink eye this week. Eww! I can’t wear any make up, and I don’t feel well. But walking in the refreshing snow makes my eyes feel better. Because of my recent trip to frigid Canada, I’m bundled up warm! Here I am, without my make up, just as The Good Lord created me. (Okay, I cheated. I’m so thankful for lipstick!) I’m all ready for a snowy trek through the woods. I feel kind of vulnerable, but God likes me just the way I am!

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Ps. 139:14).

I walk down the road to the little white church. I pass it on my way back, and compare my new footprints to the previous ones, which are almost covered. God whispers to me that even when I don’t see Him or feel Him, He is always walking with me!

“Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen” (Ps. 77:19).

My hydrangeas look beautiful! Though they are dried up and brown right now, in reality they are naturally lovely. I recognize them, because they are mine, and I know what’s hiding underneath the snow. Though we are covered in sin, God recognizes us, and loves us. He can find us when we are hiding from him, and us to repent, so we can have a pure relationship with him.

“I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night–but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you” (Ps. 139:11-12).

The pine boughs are laden with snow. Too much snow, and the bough breaks. God sent Jesus to carry the burdens which are too heavy for us to carry. We need to release them to God, and trust Him with everything.

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Ps. 15:22).

Old slave quarters still stand near a plantation house right next to our property. It reminds me that rich or poor, old or young, long ago or in future generations; God is the same God always, and His great love for each and every one of us never changes!

“But you remain the same, and your years will never end. The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you’ ” (Ps. 102:27-28).

I slip in the snow, because it’s sticking to the souls of my snow boots. But I’m enjoying my walk with God, and He’s keeping me upright!

“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand” (Ps. 37:23-24).

There’s a lot of stress and chaos going on in my life right now, but the silver lining is that I don’t have to worry about losing my way. Wherever I go, God goes. He directs my path, and leads me home, so I don’t ever need to be afraid.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Prov. 3:5-6).

As the sun sets, I think about how God watches me when I sleep. He is my refuge and shelter as the sun goes down each day. He created you and me. We must praise Him all day long!

“From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised” (Ps. 113:3).

It’s dark now. Of all the land surrounding me, I only see a small bit of light through the trees… my house. I live in a rural area with only a few houses on our lane. Tonight, ours is the only one with the lights welcoming me home. I’m warmed to my core. Home! God’s Light never goes out. Jesus makes our lights shine through the darkness, so we can lead others to our eternal home to Heaven!

“You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light” (Ps. 18:28).

Do you want God to cleanse the dirt of your sins, so that Jesus can wash you whiter than snow? I know I do! Take a walk with God, and discover Christ, Our Savior, and His free gift of eternal life.

” ‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool” (Is. 1:18).

I always enjoy your writing so much. It pretty beautiful how step by step you had a Psalm as you walked. I like how you tell stories leaving aside the fact that you write about Jesus and His beauty. Thank you for your lovely words.
