Instead of making New Year’s resolutions, consider saying prayers. When we make resolutions, they usually result in broken promises to ourselves. Guilt then sneaks in and and begins to condemn us. That’s not how God wants us to start off the new year! He wants to bless us with peace and joy. Pray, and ask God to work within your heart this year. Ask Him to guide you throughout the new year. Then, be open to letting Him make the changes in your heart, in His own perfect timing.
Instead of making promises we can’t hope to keep, we can look at the silver lining: We can always trust in God to keep His promises to us! When we pray, God will replace our empty resolutions with His bountiful blessings throughout the new year and beyond!
” ‘And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed” (Josh. 23:14 English Standard Version).
